Jonathan Boulet – A Community Service Announcement (The Album Leaf Remix)
Jonathan Boulet is one of the newest players in the Modular clubhouse, a precociously inspired 21-year-old skate rat from Sydney's Northwest. Wielding a brand of ceremoniously uplifting, deeply colourful pop that sounds like something you’ve been inadvertently searching for but never dreamed you’d find. His debut self-titled record is a certified treasure trove skipping across the indie pop spectrum, from melancholic acoustic laments to more abstract electronica-tinged instrumentals; from tribal, ritualistic chants to full blown Panavision pop. A Community Service Announcement is the title of the first single from his self-titled album (out now), a glorious garage band pocket symphony that feels like rolling in a field of daisies.
Amy Macdonald – No Roots
Amy Macdonald became one of the world's most successful British female singer-songwriters of her generation when her debut album This Is The Life went to number one in five countries, including the UK and sold three million copies globally. New album A Curious Thing (out now) is big, bold and dramatic, intimate, tender and touching. It’s Amy Macdonald, full-voiced, rebooted and reenergised, with added hammering piano and a couple of guest spots from Paul Weller. The album’s title she explains is taken from her new song No Roots: “This life I lead, it’s a curious thing, but I can’t deny the happiness it brings”. It’s a reflection on the strange turns her life has taken in the four years since she signed a record deal.
