Gorillaz accused of plagiarism

Electro pioneer Eddy Grant has accused Gorillaz of plagiarising one of his songs from the 1980s. He claims that new single Stylo rips off the keyboard line from his 1983 song Time Warp, and says that Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn has been a fan of the song for years.

“Damon Albarn knows in his heart of hearts...that this is a song that he's loved. I don't know the guy…but he knows this is a song he loves," Grant said to NME.

Although the two artists share the same publishing company, EMI, Grant says he has been deceived and no one ever asked his permission to use his song.

“In a properly configured relationship I would have gotten a call from EMI to say, ‘Damon wants to use Time Warp. What arrangement can you guys come to?’ But that phone call never came," He said.
