After a hotly contested evening of local musicians showing their skills, proggy foursome Steering By Stars have been selected as the winners for the Alleyway Band Competition granting them a place in this year’s Laneway Festival on Fri Feb 10.
Five local finalists were selected and championed by five local media outlets prior to the final heat - Fourwords chose Archie, Format Collective chose Old Mate, FasterLouder chose Big Richard Insect and dB magazine chose The Amcats, yet it was Fringe Benefits selection of the atmospheric, brooding soundscapes of Steering By Stars that ended up with the top spot.
Aside from preparing to rub shoulders with headlining acts like Laura Marling, Austra and M83, Steering By Stars have been keeping themselves occupied in the recording studio of late laying down some new material. You can see some new photos of the process here.
