GOTYE TOPS TRIPLE J HOTTEST 100 POLL

The results for the Hottest 100 are in with the #1 single for 2011 unsurprisingly going to the meteorically successful Gotye and Kimbra collaboration Somebody That I Used To Know.

It’s an interesting insight given Somebody That I Used To Know was only the 60th most played song on the national radio station last year according to Jplay, a website that tracks the stats of Triple J’s programming. In 2011 it was actually Foster The People’s Helena Beat and Architecture In Helsinki’s Contact High that were the most thrashed songs, each having the highest radio rotation at 192 and 191 plays over the year coming in at #15 and #12 in the Top 100 tally.

Other acts to make it into the top ten included The Black Keys’ Lonely Boy as a last minute #2, Matt Corby’s whistling ballad Brother at #3 and other acts like Boy & Bear, M83, Lana Del Rey, San Cisco, 360, The Jezabels and Hilltop Hoods all making the cut.

A couple of Adelaide bands managed to rear their heads in the prestigious list too. Local bristled troupe The Beards came in at #99 You Should Consider Having Sex With A Bearded Man and Hilltop Hood’s collaborative effort with Sia and local producer One Above, I Love It, seized the #10 spot.

In other news it was a brilliant year for The Wombats, Foster The People and Gotye, who each respectively had four, three and three tracks selected in the final list.
