Two of our favourite local acts, The Shiny Brights and The Touch, are battling it out for top honours in a brand new industrial band search, 'I Am With The Band'.
Headed by leading industry groups Nova FM, Street Press Australia, MySpace Music and AccessAllAreas.net.au, the 'I Am With The Band' competition picks out two bands from each state and throws them head-first into the media shit storm that is the music industry. Each band will get full page spreads in SPA titles (expect to see them in Rip It Up soon), exposure on MySpace and AccessAllAreas, and have their music thrashed on Nova radio stations. Each state's bands will be pitted in a contest to see who can garner the most amount of votes from you, the public. Then five winners will emerge and play in front of hundreds of people at Nova events.
And the judges couldn't have picked two better bands to fight it out in SA. The Shiny Brights have had a solid couple of years on the live circuit, supporting everyone from The Wombats to The Vines. They've also been hard at work in the studio, and are set to release their sophomore EP Too Many Chiefs this Fri Feb 26. They will be backing this up with a national tour, rounding off in Adelaide on Fri Mar 19 at HQ.
Meanwhile The Touch have been just as busy, recording an EP of their own with none other than Darren Cross (ex-frontman of Gerling) at the helm. Twisting their raucous indie sound into a slicker, more finely-tuned pop style, Cross has turned their crowd-stirring jives to radio ready hits. Their song Shot was also used by Rip It Up Digital for our Big Day Out video.
So there you go, two of Adelaide's finest locking horns in a popularity contest for the ages. They join Stolen Memories and The Inheritors from Sydney, Kieron Christopherson and Black Chords from Melbourne, The Wells and Dirty Wings from Brisbane, and Fools Rush In and The Transients from Perth.
