The nine nominees for the fifth annual Australian Music Prize were announced in Melbourne yesterday. Find out if you favourite Australian album in the past 12 months made the cut.
The Australian Music Prize (AMP) is different to most other awards. For starters, it's awarded by music critics and takes into account more than simply record sales or popularity. Now in its fifth year, the AMP is building in prestige and the 2010 nominees have just been announced. They are:
Oh Mercy - Privilged Woes
Black Cab - Call Signs
Kid Sam - Kid Sam
Lisa Mitchell - Wonder
Sarah Blasko - As Day Follows Night
Bertie Blackman - Secrets and Lies
Lucie Thorne - Black Across the Field
Urthboy - Spitshine
The Mess Hall - For The Birds
The four previous winners of the AMP are The Drones (2006), Augie March (2007), The Mess Hall (2008) and Eddy Current Suppression Ring (2009). This year's winner will be anounced on Fri Mar 12 in Sydney and will be awarded a $30,000 cash prize thanks to PPCA.
