New Order is to reform minus Peter Hook for a couple of benefit gigs in Paris. The legendary Manchester band (and arguably the first ever indie dance band) will perform the October shows without their infamous bass player but former keyboardist and guitarist Gillian Gilbert is back in the line-up.
Hook will be replaced by Tom Chapman, who was part of frontman Bernard Sumner’s project Bad Lieutenant. Gilbert, who is also the wife of drummer Stephen Morris, will perform with New Order for the first time in 10 years. It is no secret that Hook and Sumner are not the best of mates with the two focal points of New Order having a number of spats over the years. Everyone is expecting to hear a response from the outspoken Hook about the announcement but the only clue to his reaction was an amusing Tweet on his Twitter page, “It's a shame that, I thought Bad Lieutenant weren't bad!”
Hook has no right to complain though, since he has been touring the world with a Joy Division tribute show that didn’t include Joy Division and New Order members Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris. But it has to be said no matter Hook’s faults, it’s hard to imagine New Order live minus Hooky and his famous stance with the bass close to the ground busting out those unique and memorable basslines.
Is it New Order without Hooky?
