Tom Gleeson - Up Himself is currently running at the Rhino Room as part of the Adelaide Fringe, and the man himself is providing a running commentary of his time in Adelaide exclusive for Rip It Up Online. In his latest blog Tom explains why he won't be taking advantage of the magnificent wine regions surrounding our fair city.
"You've got to go the wineries mate. You've just got to get up to the hills." All right mate but I must admit I don't really get wine tastings. Why would you drive an hour to sip and spit tiny amounts of wine when you can just go to a restaurant and taste wine, whole glasses at a time, out of a bottle that's sitting within arm's reach?
Why would you spend a whole day traipsing around wineries looking for wines that are cheaper by about five percent? The hills are just a very large and inefficient Dan Murphy's with an added hundred dollar petrol bill.
"What about the aspect mate? What about the fucking atmos mate?" Back home I live in the country. I'm flush to the gills with peace and quiet and pleasant surrounds. I've had more tranquil afternoons than you've had hot dinners.
So no wine tasting for me. Tequila tasting, that's another story. I've been doing that every night at the Rhino Room. They always taste the same but I taste them anyway.
Tom Gleeson - Up Himself runs at the Rhino Room until Sat Mar 12 (closed Sundays and Mondays) and at the Adelaide Town Hall on Fri Mar 11. Some tickets still available.
