Sydney-born, Rwanda-residing Dina Ochwada got into jewellery designing accidentally. She made pieces, friends loved them, stores stocked them and the rest is history…Here, she sits down with Rip It Up magazine to talk about her jewellery label One Luv.
Who’s behind One Luv?
“I started our label in 2004 and my sister (Nava Martin) joined in 2008. I guess to be fair there are really four people behind One Luv as our partners Leslie and Jason never tire in their support.”
Tell us about One Luv?
“Since its establishment in 2004, One Luv has been creating innovative, fresh pieces that have made the fashion forward stand up and take notice. The jewellery is handmade and is assembled individually in Australia. After much demand from its loyal customer base throughout Australia, One Luv has just opened its online store at oneluv.com.au.“
Where do you get your inspiration from?
“The collection reflects different places I’ve travelled to and cultures I’ve seen. I’m currently in Rwanda hence the African vibe in One Luv’s ‘Animal Instinct’ collection. Most of the pieces are named after places and people that inspire me.”
One Luv's best sellers?
1. Captain Flint’s Compass (a working compass).
2. Dorothy’s Wish (a wishbone inspired by the dreams of Oz).
3. The Leaf Of Midas (a real leaf dipped in gold or silver).
4. Davy’s Bulb (a tiny light bulb that actually turns on).
5. Lion Of Tsavo (made of shell inlaid in resin).
