After Mumford mania and Florence fever earlier this year, the Laneway Festival organisers have opted for a decidedly more indie line-up in 2011. Next year's festival promises a broad cross-section of international and local underground talent.
In truth the cross-section is so broad that it's hard to pick out a headliner. The line-up has been issued in alphabetical order (quite deliberately I'm sure) to give no specific emphasis on one or two bands. But if it's highlights you're looking for, we've got plenty.
With new album Strange Weather, Isn't It? out this year, cult electro rock group !!! will be making their frst trip out to Australia since the death of drummer Jerry Fuchs last year. Fresh from their sell-out tour of Australia this winter, Oxford quintet Foals will be returning for what will be another highly anticipated live outing. And after buggering around with his side-project The Basics for most of 2010, next year's Laneway Festival will see the live return of Wally De Backer's Gotye.
