As many of us suspected, the leaked Soundwave line-up that surfaced onto the internet a couple of days ago has turned out to be the official bill for 2011. British metal gods Iron Maiden will indeed be headlining the festival with Queens Of The Stone Age, Slayer, Primus and Slash all offering more than sufficient "supporting" roles.
With their new album The Final Frontier due out next week, Iron Maiden simply refuse to turn off the creative taps and allow age to take its toll. Iron Maiden will be bringing their full stage show to Australia for the Soundwave festivals and will even be taking in a couple of side shows on the east coast. Having just come off tour in North America where they played to more than 400,000 fans over 25 dates, Iron Maiden will be in full force for their Australian jaunt in 2011.
Soundwave 2011 boasts a line-up of serious depth. On top of Josh Homme's QOTSA, metal royalty Slayer, indie kings Primus and the bona fide rock lord Slash, there's also emo's filmic superstars 30 Seconds To Mars, punk veterans Gang Of Four, hardcore heroes The Bronx and another metal survivor in Rob Zombie. They'll be propped up by a host of established middle-weights and up-and-comers alike. No doubt about it, Soundwave 2011 will be one rockin' festival.
