MAMA KIN

BEAT AND HOLLER

(INDEPENDENT)

REVIEWED 28.07.10

Danielle Caruana, better known and loved by fans as Mama Kin, has released her debut album, Beat And Holler. Mama Kin's fan base is slowly growing as she profile rises thanks to radio play and supports such as with The Cat Empire. The success of her debut single Tore My Heart, which received an honourable mention in the International Songwriting Competition was an early sign of her talents. The track was named single of the week in interstate street press and also received well-deserved attention from papers such as The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph.

The smooth, soulful compositions of Kin are influenced by the strong vocals of Aretha Franklin and gain inspiration from Mama Kin's personal experiences in life and love, creating raw and truthful lyrics. Each lyric allows readers to delve into Mama Kin's inner-most emotions, creating a vulnerability and touching listeners in all walks of life. The rhythmic trance which Mama Kin creates is among the reasons for her growing popularity, along with the soulful lyrics in songs such as Bitter Tears. Second single My Table amplifies Mama Kin's range and displays a rarely seen sassy side to the mother of two – it’s equally as easy to love and will have listeners stamping their feet to the infectious beat. With multiple songs displaying a different vocal range, the budding artist displays a profound ability and and endless stream of talent.

Mama Kin’s songs can be harrowing, her lyrics likely to entwine among your thoughts. As her personal sound gradually develops she may well emerge an unstoppable force in Australian music.  Beat And Holler expresses Mama Kin’s talent for turning a lifetime of experiences into hauntingly beautiful songs.
